Kites have been around for a long time! They date all the way back to 470 B.C. Early kites were constructed using bamboo or other sturdy reeds to frame the model. Silk or paper was used for the sail and vines or braided fiber was used as the line.

Kites were originally used as tools. In China, kites were used by the military to send secret messages. In the South Sea Islands, kites were used for fishing. Today, kites are popular hobbies for all ages! You can buy a small, class diamond kite or invest in a large stunt kite.

Today, celebrate Kite Flying Day by going outside and flying a kite, as long as weather permits! If the weather isn't permitting, make your very own kite inside. All you need are popsicle sticks, paper, and twine!

We invite prospective parents to drop on by any of our preschool locations nationwide and see why Childcare Network is more than just a day care.
