Easy & Fun Fall Activities with Kids

By: Nicole Wheeler

Don't you just love how certain months make it easy to plan special activities? I am always looking for fun activities to do with the girls at home but photo 2 (1)after a long day at school...let's be honest...sometimes structured activities are the last thing children want.

You can jump on Pinterest or even Facebook and get lots of creative ideas.

Truthfully, for me, I like to keep activities simple. It always seems like the more time and preparation I put into an activity, the more likely it is to bomb. I also find that my feelings don't get nearly as hurt if they don't like an activity when I have not invested a ton of time in the preparation.

Of course October lends itself well to activities outside the home. This is a great time of the year for corn mazes, hay rides and pumpkin patches. Some days we want to go on adventures outside our house but some early mornings lend themselves to quiet activities at home.

What sorts of fall activities do you like to do at home? Raking and jumping in leaves? Carving photo 4 (1)pumpkins?

E and I did some fun things together this month. I still feel like E is young for carving pumpkins, so I just love these little push-on faces you can buy at the dollar store. They turn a pumpkin into a Mr Potatohead-like toy. She loves them! I also grabbed a little kit at the grocery store and we spent two full mornings decorating cookies without me having to even turn on the oven! Of course cooking projects are fun so you could always make the cookies from scratch. E does like simple cooking projects but doesn't have the attention or patience for longer projects. To satisfy her enjoyment in the kitchen (and my never ending need for all things pumpkin) we made pumpkin pudding--nonfat Greek yogurt, pumpkin purée, raw honey and allspice. Delicious!
