Our Educator Spotlight comes to us from #123 in Bristol, VA, where Ms. Kristy Brooking is the wonderful Assistant Director. Kristy is a 2011 graduate of Emory and Henryteacher_2108 College where she received her bachelor’s degree in Geography and Environmental Studies. While in college, she worked at Busy Bee’s Child Development School for her work study program and that is where her love for Early Childhood Education formed. Kristy began her journey with Childcare Network in February 2011 as the Two’s Teacher. She worked with the two year old children for a year and a half and was then promoted to Assistant Director in December 2012. Kristy now helps with managing seven classrooms. She serves as part of the support system for over thirteen full and part time employees, and is involved in the monthly planning for each classroom. She makes the necessary purchases for the school in order to give the teachers the proper materials for each of their classrooms. Kristy also offers help with classroom management and behavior issues; she provides support to our teachers with our Conscious Discipline Initiative as kbwell as our pilot program for Smart Beginnings. Under this pilot program our school undergoes voluntary Virginia Quality Initiative Rating Scale System through the Virginia Department of Social Services. Kristy ensures to help each teacher and classroom undergo environmental enhancements to help increase our school rating and better our programs for our students.

Kristy is not only a huge asset to our center, but to the community as well. She utilizes our Focus of Expertise “Giving is Learning” by volunteering her time through different service projects in the community such as: Bristol’s Rhythm and Roots Children’s Day Festival. At this event we have the opportunity to serve over 300 children and families with kid friendly craft activities and marketing materials. Kristy also sits on two boards in the community for Smart Beginnings; The Family Consortium Board and the QIRS Director’skristy garden Council. Kristy has taken our Focus of Expertise one step further by "spear-heading" a playground revitalization that includes garden boxes for the children to grow their own flowers, fruits and vegetables. Our children are now able to take home the healthy foods that they have worked hard to plant and grow.

Kristy says she loves her job because she has the pleasure of teaching children and watching them learn and grow as individuals. In her spare time she is enjoying the newlywed life with her husband Kevin, and enjoys spending time with her four year old niece Kylie and her puppy, Quincey. She loves to garden and spend time at the lake with friends and family. We are so lucky to have Kristy as a part of our CNI Family and we appreciate everything she does!
