These books are carefully selected by our education specialists to use a variety of experience to connect emerging language and literacy with social-emotional development.

This month, our Infant through 2 year olds classrooms are reading Grumpy Bird by Jeremy Tankard. Bird wakes up feeling grumpy. Too grumpy
to eat or play. Too grumpy even to fly. "Looks like I'm walking today," says Bird. He walks past Sheep, who offers to keep him company. He walks past Rabbit, who also could use a walk. Raccoon, Beaver, and Fox join in, too. All the while, Bird grows even grumpier! But before he knows it, a little exercise and companionship help Bird overcome his bad mood.

The 3 year old to school aged classrooms are reading The Way I Act by Steve Metzger. This book explores thirteen ways of behaving. The friendly verses and bold illustrations convey many positive ideas of how to act in a variety of situations. This is a great book to use to introduce and explore words about feelings and behavior

Stayed tuned for some more reading fun! Along with each book, several book-related activities are provided to reinforce the social-emotional skill. Follow-up questions are also included as well to assist with reading comprehension.

We invite prospective parents to drop on by any of our preschool locations nationwide and see why Childcare Network is more than just a day care.
