Eat an Extra Dessert Day!

By: Kate Quattlebaum

Today is the perfect day to indulge your sweet tooth by enjoying that extra slice of cake or additional scoop of ice cream. It’s Eat an Extra Dessert Day!

Desserts are typically a sweet course that falls at the end of a meal. The word “dessert” comes from the French word “desservir,” which translates to, “to clear the table.” While sugar is a popular sweetener used in modern times, fruits and honey were used as the first sweeteners. Sugar didn’t make its way into Europe until the 12th century! Dessert popularity was increased during the Industrial Revolution when they began being mass produced and preserved.

Celebrating today is all in the name, eat an extra dessert! If your family doesn’t normally serve desserts, you could make something extra special to enjoy on this day. You can make healthy desserts using fruit such as baked apples or strawberry popsicles!
