Sandpaper Day!

By: Kate Quattlebaum

Have you ever used rough, gritty paper to smooth the edges or surface of an item. Well today is a special day dedicated to this abrasive material. It’s Sandpaper Day!

Types of sandpaper have been used as far back as the 13th century in China when it was made out of crushed shells, seeds, sand, and gum. Sandpaper was first patented in the United States in 1834 by Isaac Fisher Jr.

To commemorate Sandpaper Day, there are several things you could do! Start a project and used sandpaper while working on it. You could also try to make your own sandpaper with sand and glue!
