Thomas Jefferson Day!

iStock-467535034 Today is a celebration of Thomas Jefferson, the man who wrote the Declaration of Independence and served as the third president of the United States! One of the so-called “founding fathers,” Jefferson played a key role in making our country what it is today. He helped lay down the foundations for the first amendment and what we now consider the right to free, public education. This isn’t the only thing that made Jefferson interesting though.

As an extremely curious person, he was always studying something or trying something new. He was both a lawyer and scientist who studied “agriculture, paleontology, and astronomy.” A quirkier fact about Thomas Jefferson is that he was a foodie. It is said that he loved ice cream, macaroni and cheese, French fries, champagne, and parmesan cheese. He managed to popularize ice cream and mac and cheese in the U.S. by serving them at the White House!

To celebrate Thomas Jefferson Day, you can make a post about it on social media, enjoy one of his favorite foods in his honor, or make up your own celebration. As a man of innovation, Jefferson would probably be the most flattered by the last option!
