Supervised tummy time is vital in the gross motor development of infants. Neck, back, and shoulder muscles are strengthened and are needed to meet developmental milestones. Improvement in these muscles will allow infants to roll over, sit, crawl, stand, and walk.
Keeping infants engaged during tummy time is important. Give the infant a few options of toys or play a game of peek-a-boo. If infants are almost ready to crawl, you can place a toy just out of reach and encourage more movement.
